Great success for our Alliance Project in Mubende/Mityana, Uganda: on Nov. 5^th,  4  Depot Committees, second tier organizations of the farmers, delivered the first 11 MT of coffee to Kampala and sold it directly to Ibero, an experienced export company. The joint transport and business was organized by the "Zonal Marketing Committees", which the Depot Committees have specifically set up for this purpose. The quality was excellent and the farmers earned a very attractive price. Further deliveries are now expected on a weekly basis - a milestone for the farmers and the project. Up to now, the farmers in Mubende and Mityana were still suffering from low prices for their crop, as better market access was very limited. This deal literally represents the furthest the farmers can go to market their coffee, before starting to export it themselves. Read more.
