NKG Coffee Alliance Trust: Benefitting more than 15.000 farmers in Uganda

Kalibala - Farmer Meeting in Village

The NKG Coffee Alliance Trust is a non-profit NGO (non-governmental organisation) within the framework of HRNS that works in close co-operation with the European Community and the Ugandan government to support the development of coffee farmers in the country on a large scale. The trust was founded in Uganda with the sole objective to realize the "Coffee Farmers Alliance Support Project". Established in 2004 the work of NKG Coffee Alliance Trust has so far benefitted more than 15.000 coffee farmers in the Mubende and Mityana districts of Uganda. The head office of the NKG Coffee Alliance Trust is located in Kampala, the field office in Mityana.

Due to the success of the first project phase, the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) strongly endorses a second phase, now potentially targeting the Luwero district as another prime producing area of the country. "Based on the benefits to the farmers and great lessons learnt from the first project, it is our strong belief that the approach should be extended to other coffee growing areas in Uganda", says Henry Ngabirano, Director of UCDA.
