This project supported around 500 coffee farmers and their families who are organised within the association ACTASA in San Cristobal, Alta Verapaz.

ICP helped these mostly indigenous farmers to make efficient use of washing stations which were financed by the European Union, a cooperation partner, and to produce high quality parchment coffee according to sustainable coffee production guidelines. In addition, beneficiaries receive administrative and managerial support as well as training in the organisation of the coffee flow, the rigorous control of coffee quality and sound business practices. Diversification into other products, such as sustainable forestry and the close cooperation with women´s groups to help them produce marketable handicraft, are other important components.
